PMHA Forefronts First PSAMH Monthly Meeting

                The Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) conducted the first Psychological Societies Association of Mental Health (PSAMH) monthly meeting at the PMHA conference hall, #18 East Avenue, Quezon City, Friday, July 29.

The program started with the registration of different year levels of psychology students from different colleges and universities. After the registration, the psychology students gathered inside the PMHA conference hall. The program started at 1:00pm with the doxology led by Ms. Alma Bisyong of Technical Services of PMHA which was then followed by the National Anthem. The emcees of the program were Ms. Krislyn Santayana and Ms. Sol Pineda of the Education and Information Services.

The welcome remark was delivered by Ms. Llewelyn Issa Dela Cruz, Program Manager of Clinical and Diagnostics Services (CDS) which was followed by the introduction of the schools who attended the meeting were introduced. Twenty-four colleges and universities participated in the event including University of Rizal System Morong and Pililla Campuses, University of Makati, Our Lady of Fatima University  Quezon City Campus, Pasig Catholic College, St Jude College of Manila, Angeles University Foundation Angeles Pampanga, San Beda College Manila, Laguna College of Business and Arts, Far Eastern University, San Sebastian College Recoletos, Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, Centro Escolar University Manila, Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Olivarez College Parañaque, University of Caloocan City Main Campus, Divine Word College of Calapan Mindoro, Philippine Women’s University, Manila Taitana Colleges, New Era University, Central Colleges of the Philippines, De La Salle University Taft and Philippine Christian University.

The introduction of the colleges and universities was followed by an energizer. Subsequently, pre-evaluation forms were also disseminated to the students.

An inspirational video set up the mood of the program. It showed everything about anxiety and the disorders that emerge from too much anxiety. The video also presented the function, programs and services that the said organization aims to provide to people. After the video presentation, the emcees oriented the students about PMHA and the three programs (Education and Information Services, Clinical and Diagnostics Services and Rehabilitation Services) that the organization offers. They have nine active branches that support mental health and its awareness.

Ms. Dela Cruz, one of the speakers, explained the internship program that the organization offers for the undergraduate and graduate students of Psychology.  There was also the orientation of PSAMH which tackled about the functions and purposes of building the association for the high school and psychology students.

Election of Officers for PSAMH was also a part of the program where Kenneth Wilson Abonita of IV-C2 was elected as the Auditor. Other officers elected were Pauline Baryon of CEU Manila (President), Elijah Flores of OLFU Quezon City (Vice President Internal), Angel Bisoña of UCC (Vice President External), Janice Respeto of PCC (Secretary) and Jenison Escaros of UMak (Treasurer).

The whole program ended with the tour of the PMHA compound wherein students eagerly participated. Different offices of the three programs were seen by the students. The last part of the tour was in the work center of “mental health consumers” where their products like handicrafts were presented to the students.
